What's that thump?

It seems like I have been feeling a thump when I am rolling say at 60 with no gas, then when I floor it for a sec I can feel a thump. I don't feel it when I am at a light and let off the brake and give it gas. It is almost as if there is play somewhere in the drive line and when I give it gas I can feel it. It also seems like it was been getting a little worse in the last year. I also think it seems worse in 4x4. Any ideas as to what it is or should I be concerned? It isn't terrible but it is noticeable.

Put it up on blocks in neutral & very carefully inspect the u-joints. That's where I'd start....

Possibly your CSB. Check that and your u-joints.

CSB= Center Support (Carrier) Bearing

The CSB shouldn't have much (if any) play in it. If it does, when torque is applied, it will cause the driveline to "thump" against the bearing bracket.

If it is the CSB, I have a CSB that I bought, then got a deal on the whole upper driveshaft, including a CSB. It's been laying in my garage, and if you need one, I'll make you a deal.

I have a 96 taco SR5 4wd that has a thump when accelerating and at speed also. When at a light or at idle no thump and when I take my foot off the gas the noise reduces at the truck slows down.

I will have to check the CSB. If it is that, it will be awesome. I will probably go ahead and replace the U-joints while I am at it too.
