Question What's this hole in my transfer case?

I was just under my 4runner and noticed a small hole in the left side of my transfer case. I'd say it is probably about an 1/8" in diameter maybe just a hair bigger. There seems to be a little bit of tranny fluid coming out of it. Is something supposed to hook up here? It's molded into the transfer case. Surely Toyota wouldn't just leave a hole out in the open like that. I'm just wondering if it is something I should worry about.

Thanks guys

even though I wouldn't have a clue how to help you, pics would be nice so the real toyota techies can give you a good answer to your question.

I am glad you said something... I just noticed that one myself. I was low on fluid and added a stop leak and conditioner to see if it would help around the gasket there. But it appeared that some was coming from this small hole you refered to. It is unthreaded and tapered so no hose could connect to it.

Yes, I know. I'll be home again tomorrow so I'll snap a shot of it. A digicam is in the making. I now have a job and as soon as I have a little money to spare I will buy one.

There is a "hole" like that on the left side, but it's a blind hole. There shouldn't be anything coming out of it. It is not a "weep" hole, the transfercase vents through the shifter. I can't remember exactly but what I'm talking about is on the opposite side of either the shift rail detent retaining bolt or the 4wd indicator switch.

I was just at Toyota and looked at their parts diagram of the transfer case. There is no part that is supposed to go on or in this hole. My only guess as to why it is there is so that bubbles can come out of it in the event the tranny fluid bubbles up. I'm really not sure .

Thanks
