Like the title says. Someone said I should upgrade. What are the differences? I also see the have LED style tail lights on eBay. Are they bright like OEM LED tails?
Thanks

The aftermarket led's are blinding. The 01-02 tails are much more clear compared to the 96-00...just look a lot nicer. There is no such thing as OEM led tails for the 3rd gen.

Source a pair of OEM 01-02 tail lights and you'll love 'em for many years.

Nice to see you around still rocket. As you know I sell toyota parts. I ask the above question because a lady returned a 01 tail light and I thought they fit 96-02. She said the wiring was different? Either way, I want the newer style for my DD.

The '01-'02 do have a different wiring harness than the '96-'00. The reverse bulb is also different.

I am still trying to source a driver side tail light from 01-02. I have been driving around w/ two diff tail light.

There was a slight different in harness and it's pretty obvious. Very simple to DIY.

Rob it's also nice to see ya modding a 3rd gen now.
The 01-02 tails are plug n play if you have the piggyback harnesses off the newer tails. If not, I recall it being a simple cut/splice of one wire per side...

rockauto.com has new tails from TYC for $37.00 ea. They are better than DEPO which you commonly find on eBay. FYI for the guy looking...OEM is best obviously.

Did you get the 01-02 LED's? Or 98. Does it matter? Plug in play sounds good to me.
