Hey fella's, i have a 98 tacoma 3.4, 4wd, 5spd That wont go into any gear but 4th im thinking i need a rebuild on my transmission. Does anyone have a part number for the tranny? Also if anyone could point me in the direction of a good quality rebuild kit.

Look at the info tag on the drivers door sill. There should be a code for trans and axles. Then check marlin crawler I think they have rebuild kits. I know they sell complete transmissions.
Aside from only going into 4th why do you think the trans is shot? Has it been giving you problems? Has it been making noise? Standard transmissions can take significant abuse and still work. Generally the clutch is the weak link. Could it be possible you just fried the clutch?

when you say goes in like normal, is that with the truck running or off? How does the pedal feel? Did anything happen before? Were you driving when it quit shifting? Or did it not go into gear when you went out to start it one day?

The info you provide the more we can help

Mine would not go into 1st or reverse, at first I thought the transmission needed help.

It turned out the clutch fork was cracked and I was not getting the travel I needed to fully disengage the clutch.

You could also checked the dreaded "cracked firewall" that limits clutch pedal travel, the master cylinder and slave cylinder. One more thing, the shifter bushing could be shot, I put a new one in mine when I did the clutch fork, shifts like new now.
