What is this part under my 4runner?

What is it?

What does it do?

What would happen if I didn't have it?

I searched, couldn't find what I'm looking for. Sorry it's a crappy pic, that's the best one I have, but it should give the right idea.

According to my FSM it is a Dynamic Damper for the transfer case.

That's right, all automatics have it, and a few 3.4 5-speeds seem to as well.

But the 2.7 and the 5-Speed does not. It's a better motor and does not need any "band-aid" fixes.

Too bad you're not bringing you 4runner to pismo, we could race at comp hill. I'd spank you.

Not another word.

i'm asking because i'm in the process of getting some skid plates/fror crossmember put on my runner, and right now that dynamic damper fanciness is not on there. my truck didn't blow up on the ride home, so i guess that's good. i can it put back if need be i guess, but am just crious about it.

and now after reading schaefer's last post, i'm gonna go barf.

It would stop vibrations, so if you get vibrations put it back on.

The 2.7 is balanced different.

Actually, Chuck, I think I've spanked you a few times on comp hill.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

It's all about the 5-speed launch.

I'll race you in an FJ-62 with an inline 6 and an auto.

After all if a guy in his wifes truck beats you..............

You gotta listen to Kelly Clarkson for 1 hour streight.

Chuck, I've seen some people flip the mount so the weight is angled for better clearance. I don't know if that's possible with yours?
