What Does SR5 Stand For?

What does SR5 mean? What's it stand for. My buddy and I at work are trying to figure it out. He thought that it meant it had a 5spd. But you can get an auto sr5. What gives?

hehe, well at least I got the Sport right

Since mine is a SR5, I guess I'll just call mine a Sport Rally 5 door. Although the V8 guys can actually claim Sport Rally 5 speed! So SR5 makes sense again

I wonder how many Toyota sales people know what SR5 stands for... I bet they'd say it's just a model name like RSX.

I remeber somebody telling me in the '80 on the early trucks and 4Runners it meant it had the stripe package and a 5 speed. Sounded kinda silly but every SR5 I saw back then had those.

it was a package on the early 80's toyota's that meant sport-rally 5 speed, when it first came out, it was only available on 4x4 short beds for the first year as far as i know. but it came with a 22r 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, bucket seats, a/c, kenwood stereo, deluxe gauge cluster with tachometer, and special graphics. but as time moved on, it turned into a trim package

So does anybody know what SW4 stands for on Hilux models sold in several countries? We have two in the family in Brazil, one '01 crewcab 2.8 diesel turbo and a 3.0 gas '97 4Runner/Surf type--both have 5 speed manuals.
