What Does SR5 Stand For?

What does SR5 mean? What's it stand for. My buddy and I at work are trying to figure it out. He thought that it meant it had a 5spd. But you can get an auto sr5. What gives?

Sport Runner 5 door? Same Runner $5 grand cheaper?

I was about to say to do a search.

FirstToy 06-23-2004 05:48 PM

hehe, well at least I got the Sport right

Since mine is a SR5, I guess I'll just call mine a Sport Rally 5 door. Although the V8 guys can actually claim Sport Rally 5 speed! So SR5 makes sense again

Mine is a Sport Rally 5 Speed. it's manual tranny.

So the V8's are available in 5 Speed manual? I didn't know that.

FirstToy 06-23-2004 07:33 PM

No, 5 speed auto. But they can still claim SR5 whereas I can't.

keisur 06-23-2004 08:04 PM

I guess. but for us "true" sport ralley 5 speeders, they can't make that claim. haha.

I wonder how many Toyota sales people know what SR5 stands for... I bet they'd say it's just a model name like RSX.

Darx 06-23-2004 09:51 PM

Never knew that. Huh.

I guess I need to take my truck to some rally events and get my drift on!

At this point, yeah... that's all it is now.

I remeber somebody telling me in the '80 on the early trucks and 4Runners it meant it had the stripe package and a 5 speed. Sounded kinda silly but every SR5 I saw back then had those.

roger 06-24-2004 07:18 AM

always wondered what that meant....

maybe I'll be on Jeopardy someday and that'll be the final question!

mc_bain 01-20-2011 06:17 PM

I guess the boys with a V8 could claim Sport Rally 5 Litre

98_3RZ 01-20-2011 06:51 PM

it was a package on the early 80's toyota's that meant sport-rally 5 speed, when it first came out, it was only available on 4x4 short beds for the first year as far as i know. but it came with a 22r 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, bucket seats, a/c, kenwood stereo, deluxe gauge cluster with tachometer, and special graphics. but as time moved on, it turned into a trim package

guitarplayer360 01-20-2011 07:18 PM

....so what does it mean?

So does anybody know what SW4 stands for on Hilux models sold in several countries? We have two in the family in Brazil, one '01 crewcab 2.8 diesel turbo and a 3.0 gas '97 4Runner/Surf type--both have 5 speed manuals.
