I have a 1995 4Runner v6...
What AC system do I have? I can't find my manual and the Stealership wants me to bring it in. :

Mmm... should be R134 (the New stuff). I'm pretty sure my 95 Talon was. Look on the bottom of the hood or around the engine bay, you might find a sticker that says.

My truck is the new stuff, but its a 97. I bet yours is too though.

I do know that it says somewhere in the engine compartment of mine near the radiator in the front. You might want to look around under there and see if you can find a label.

For whatever its worth, when the A/C on my '94 P/U went out, I had it replaced with the new stuff (R134).

The government mandated date for conversion to R134a was Jan. 1, 1995. Most manufacturers (including Toyota) made the conversion in the '94 model year.

Yes. I bought a can at the parts store that has the R134 and oil. It had a gauge on it so you just press the button on the top until the gauge reads in the green area and voila. No leaks since. I didn't really need to fill up but a friend who does A/C work hooked up his equipment and charged it a little - when he took off his hose I guess it unscrewed my Schraeder valve and that caused my system to be low again. I tightened the Schraeder, recharged the system, and no leaks since.

Look at the fittings for charging it. If it looks like your tire valve stems, it's an R-12 system. If the fittings are larger and use a snap on connector, it's R-134.

toy283 is correct. 94 and on have 134. I charged mine once. You can buy the 134 just about anywhere for $15 with the hose connector. The valve is right next to the charcoal canister on the left of the engine bay (when facing the engine from the front). Be carful because both H an L are within 2 inches of each other. The caps say H and L on them. If you don't have caps, its the larger line. Just put the 134 can in warm water while filling.
