weird sound when I step on gas and let go

I have 93 4runner v6. When I step on the gas(not all the way just half way or so) and let go, I hear this weird noise coming from the engine bay/below area, anyone have/had this problem before?

Describe it More Thoroughly

Well....you'll have to do a better job of describing it than that!!!

What does it sound like exactly? A whirring, a whining, a shrieking, a grinding, a moaning, a swooshing, a moo-ing, a cackle-ing....I could go on.

Give us something more to go on, because these 3L V6's are noisy enough as it is......with all of the fan swooshes, and lifter tapping, and injector clickings, etc, etc, etc.

David

lol sorry, its like a grinding/hitting noice. Like something is hitting something and vibrating. Its deff. not a normal engine noise.

Check your oil. My 92 PU made a sound like that right before the headgasket bit the dust. I checked my oil and found none. My gauges didn't run hot or abnormal, but I had burnt up all most all the oil in my engine without any warning whatsoever until i heard the noise.

Have you tried raising the hood and hand turning the throttle up to a high rpm to see exactly where the noise is coming from? (Make sure to have the transmission in neutral or park if an auto and have the e-brake engaged).

If it is internal in the engine....it could be piston slap or low oil as Jon said. If it is external....see where it is coming from. I had my power steering pump start to go out and it stripped the key way on the pulley....it vibrated and made a grinding noise.

Let us know what you find out.

Maybe engine mounts. Like David said open the hood and hand turn the throttle. You should be able to narrow it down.

thanks guys, I tried it the other day, funny thing is it didn't make that sound! I don't know what it is. Its a rattling sound coming from passenger side. Only happens when I hit gas but not all the way and then let go.
