vibrating hood at high speed

Seems as though there was a thread on this awhile back, but I can't seem to find it. Ever since I installed my bug shield, I get a horrible vibration in the hood up towards the hinges. Is there a fix to this problem?

Just wanted to chime in and say that Ive had this same problem recently as well. Mine is a 2nd gen though.

I lifted the hood to tighten up the hood mounts where they meet the hood and they were already very tight. It seems to be loose from inside where the mounts go through the firewall. Have not had the time to tear into it yet and see what is going on with mine.

I've heard of this before though I really don't get much over 75 MPH with ours and haven't seen it yet myself. While surfing the net a while back I came across a guy that is an engineer that makes and sells a bolt in hood brace to eliminate the problem. Try looking for it on Google. Maybe you'll find the same site I did.

Mine vibrates, so did every 3rd gen I test drove, with or without bug shields. I figured it was normal.

Isn't that bad though.

I have no clue if this works, but I've seen this before...

I concur. Vibration wasn't noticeable until 80 or 85 prior to the bug shield. Now vibration happens at 75mph.

If anyone has tried the Flanker Solution Inc, solution, I'd be very curious to hear the results.

I'm also very interested in this site and the "fix" he sells. Is it worth $50 though? Anyone on here ordered one and tried it?

Thanks!

I have the EGR Carbon Fiber "like" guard and it made a lot of wind noise after I installed it.

I solved mine by adjusting the hood stops in the front. Just screw them "out" a bit more. This raises the front of the hood a bit and changes the airflow.
This was the fix for my 93 Runner's problem with the back hood rattling/flapping at high speed.

My taco did it as well as my 68 stang. Front hood rubber adjustment cured it.

I put up with the Hood flapping at speeds above 60mph for almost three years on my 93 Runner before a Tech at the Toyota dealer told me to turn out the Hood Stops until the rattles and flapping stops.

I had the same problem with the 02 after I put the bug guard on it. The back of the Hood started rattling until I adjused the Stops.

Hmmm, my 96 doesn't do it (no bug shield) but my 98 Taco did it (Toyota bug shield). Kind of annoying for a Toyota...maybe on a Jeep, but not a Toy.
