V8 Supercharger - what's the best price?
#1
Anyone who has bought the V8 TRD Supercharger. Where did you get it and for how much? Does anyone know of any "group buys" or good places to buy from?
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

Biff:
I'm pretty sure TRD is still working the bugs out of the ecu mapping. I hope it won't be long...
I need some honest feedback here though:
1. How loud is the whine? I remember when I threw the kenne bell twin screw blower on my WJ it was definitely noticeable, it drowned out the deep rumble of the V8. Not to loud, but loud enough to let the car next you know what was under the hood...I am concerned cause I really like how silent the 4runner is in the cockpit, especially given my audiophile tendencies...
2. Shifting problems: How does the the 4runner drive in high gear on the freeway? Does it dance around a lot between 4th and 5th on the freeway at cruising speed, or does it hold high gear steady with acceleration when needed? I know on my WJ i had major mapping problems which kept the computer in open loop.
3. Is the increase of power worth the mod? I'll be close to 4.5K by the time I'm done. I could probley get my heads ported/polished through trd for about the same price as well as the cams done. I've read the hype 100+hp, but it seems alot of the folks at Tundra Solutions feel it's more only a 60-70 max HP gain.
I am so skeptical, probably going to need to test drive before I commit. The parasitic loss through the AWD drive train is going to take a hell of alot more than 100 HP to really make a worthy difference for the price, IMOO. Yours probably screams since your 2wd

The whine is not that noticeable, you only hear it when you engage the sc.

The high gears are very sensitive. I've learned to have better throtle control which seems to help me take full advantage of the sc. If you punch it on high gear you won't get as much power. Most of the power is in the mid range rpms.

Well I can only tell you my experience. I've test driven several V8's with a range of 300-400 hps. Ofcourse this is all by feel, but I estimate the hp to be between 340-360 for me with my exhaust, and other mods I've made. Again this is all by feel. To answer your question is the mod worth it.
HELL YA!!!!! I feel like a freekin
flying down the freeway. The best money I've ever spend.

A test drive would really help you out. Don't know
where you could get one though.
Good luck, here are a couple of pics of mine.

I have a buddy with an '04 SR5 4x4 and the TRD Supercharger. He took it to the track in Portland (1/4 track) with a roof rack (I believe it houses his surfboard), spare tire, 2 suitcases full of luggage, baby seat, other crap, plus over a 1/2 tank of gas. Without really knowing how to launch, he ran 15.1's at 87mph. Take most of the crap out and learn the best launch and it's in the 14's. One of these days we'll go to Firebird (Phoenix) and run both of ours. I'm stock, but with a Sport 4x2. My guess is that I'll hit around 16.4, and here, without the crap in his, he'll still easily hit a 15.0. Now, this is just a guess, but a 1.4 second difference equates to over a 100hp difference. It's the torque that gets it going though!

No really, its unreal. I love it. My 04 Runner isn't half the vehicle the cruiser is, makes sense as the cruiser was a tad bit more than double what i paid for the 04 sport. After 25K miles all i've done is change the oil a few times and put alot of gas in it. The throttle response in my opinion is better than my 4runner, but that could be related to the fact the runner is now computer controlled and not controlled by a little metal wire connected to the gas peddle
. The tires are about to go so i started looking at mod options. I think a 2 inch old man susp and tires are around the corner. You got the 4.5? I hear there is a decent supercharger you can throw on that...
