Someone should drop a modded 2JZ-GTE into their 4Runner...

starter hits the upper control arm where the torsion bar bolts on. as far as interference, about 3/4 or 1 inch. if i could find a starter angled another direction, besides straight out, it would work.

Anything that goes in a Toyota should be Toyota, I looking into the 7M-GTE
230hp with a little head work and more air intake you might approach 300hp
for arounf $1500.00 and a little time, then IT'S STILL ALL TOYOTA, I would rather walk then drive a HeeP

The 2JZ that several people mentioned would definately be a cool swap. But much less costly and just fine if you want about 300hp would be the strait turbo six from the JDM-only Toyota Chaser. Basically the same as the 2JZ but with a single turbo...so a lot simpler. In stock form, either of these sixes are capable of similar horsepower and torque to a small block domestic V8, and much lighter and infinetly more refined. You have virtually unlimited upside power potential if you want to mod the motor, and probably 50% additional power can be added on stock internals. Not to mention you'd be maintaining a Toyota drivetrain.

I SECOND THAT!!!
I have had only one problem(a busted valve spring) with the motor, and that's probably cause the guy who put my motor together most likely got all his parts from the junkyard. Which is where I found a replacement spring for 75 cents. I love my 302.

i love ford vs chevy arguments. if you strip it down and rebuild it with quality components, you shouldn't have any problems.

now, there are some engines that are just plain bad(like the olds 403) but neither a typical ford or chevy smallblock has those kind of problems.
