Turbo 99 4Runner Pics - 5vz-fe
Hello,
After a year and a half of installing, tweaking, and tuning I finally have my turbo 4runner up and running near perfect (the tune can always be a little better right ). This started out as a project to create a completley bolt on kit for 3rd gen 4runners and taco's, but due to the vast differences year to year it turns out that the kit was never realized. However, the shop who fabricated the manifold and other piping is fabricating and installing turbo set-ups on an individual basis.
Anyways, here are some pics of how the motor turned out! I have not dyno'd the current set-up (new turbo, ported manifold, new downpipe, new engine managment etc..), but the old one put down 272 hp and 379 TQ at 7 lbs of boost. I am currently running about 10 lbs and will be heading to the dyno is a couple weeks!

Drives just like stock untill you decide to get going. The new turbo I got (big t3/t4 ball bearing) has almost no lag and feels alot like the S/C is terms of responsivness. My MPG is so-so, 16-18 but that's partly because I have a pretty heavy foot....

No - the MAF is mounted in the charge piping between the intercooler and the throttle body (last picture is a close up of the mounting). Works good - I have a MAF clamp that clamps the max voltage to avoid throwing a CEL under high boost.

Yeah - There is no comparison to the power and tq when I had my S/C on there, the turbo is wayyy stronger. However, Mark (midiwall) here on the forum has the trd S/C and many other mods that has the potential of out performing my set-up. We will find out soon though!

very nice
I plan on doing a TC to mine but instead of having to change out the exhaust manifold we are going to do a rear exhaust turbo setup with arb safari snorkel as the main air induction and a top mount intercooler and a HTC or holsel turbo. thinkin about the to4b .58 ar as well.

ah ok a blow through setup. i was gonna say if your still using maf you should try recirculating the blow off valve but nevermind heh.
looks like a nice setup. around what rpms do you get full spool?

To4B .53 a/r turbine is similar in size to mine actually - I have a t3 .63 a/r turbine and a t04E .55 A/R compressor side.
Good luck!

Yeah, what QSVeilside said! So what are the fittings and tubing going to the plenum and do you have any pics of the IC mount? How much did you have to modify to mount it?

Wastegate acuator
Electronic Boost Controller
Blow Off Valve
Additional Injector Controller
Boost Gauge
MAP-ECU2
Here is a pic of the FMIC. The only modification was enlarging a gap on either side of the radiator to let the piping fit through.

Thanks for the compliments. We will see how badass it all is once I get on the dyno. It has been alot of work and trial and error with different parts and configurations. I BETTER be breaking 300 hp to the wheels or else!!
