Trying to get a general consesus of what people here are using, i just picked up some 199's today. Going to wirebrush it fine sand it and paint it red.

 

I think only one guy on this board went w/ the 231's and had to shave some inner part of his wheel to clear. 199mm w/ Brembos, SS lines, good pads and a brake flush does wonders...

 

If you're lifted do you need different SS lines? WHat did you use?

 

I don't think you ever "need" SS lines. Depending on how much lift you have, it would make sense to have longer lines and the easiest way is to swap them w/ longer SS lines. I went w/ Goodrich brakelines but Allpro has a complete set for pretty cheap. Actually, I have a rear Allpro that I never used so if you're interested, $20 shipped. I think they go for $30 or $35 plus shipping.

 

I understand the need oart, I was asking if you're lifted and want SS lines, do you need to find longer lines or can you use normal length. SS's lines look good.

Would the allpro line work with a lifted rig (2.5")?

I'm lifted but not enough that I "needed" longer lines. The Goodrich ones I used were for normal height 4runners.

 

Sorry man, no wrenching skills on my part. BTW, it's not that easy as swapping it out; you have to bleed the system too.

 

It should. It's supposed to be for lifts up to 3" IIRC.

I think either could be made to fit (obviously), but 199's should require alot less effort/mods.

I still can't wait to do the mod myself, my window is closing too.....damn winters up here!!!

Anyone know what boneyards in the states are charging for calipers?

 

I don't know specifics but I've read posts were people were paying $20 a caliper but required some rebuild.

Jaime, I'm even happier w/ the SS lines, Akebono pads and a full system flush than ever. My pedal feel is so much better after this round of PM.

 

I'm working on a caliper rebuild guide for the 199's. Its super easy to do. If anyone needs help please PM me. Rebuild kits are $11 each at Napa/Meyers.

If you have sequia/tundra 17's then by all means get the 231's. I "should" fit with a lil modification to the dust shield.

Brembo's are nice, but you can get a set of centric rotors for like $50 each and so far I am really happy with mine. If you offroad you may want to re-think the drilled or slotted route. I wheel with a guy that got mud in his slotted rotors and after a lil heavy breaking the mud turned into a cement like mixture.

 

the shop that i go to sells $36 for brembo 4runner 16" rotors, i wonder how much the tundra brembo blanks would run for.

I have the 199's with Brembo's. I got new calipers for $52 a piece, loaded. I went to Checkers, and had them price match autozone. Worked great, and I love how it actually stops now!!

I too went with the Goodrich SS lines. Would I do it again? Probably. Although I did not get as much firm-up on the pedal as I wanted.

 

Does anyone know the guy in so cal who went to this place that specialized in SS lines and got 3 lines for cheap, like it was custom made or something?

 

Just in response to the other guy who was asking how long the all-pros SS lines are, I believe they are 8" longer than stock.
