TRD Injector Kit ($1299)!

I just visited the TRD website and they have a new injector kit for 3.4L supercharged motors. They claim a 21% power increase.

21% of stock would be about 38hp, but 21% of a supercharged motor would be an additional 50 or so horses.

Anybody have the beta on this new injector kit, or know where to get them wholesale? I've tried all the usual suspects (e.g. toyotaparts4u.com, etc.)

Another 50 ponies would put me at nearly 300, wow.

Did you happen to notice that it lists only a part # for 00-01 and another # for 02-03? $1300 for a 7th injector and a controller......hmmm. Seems about $900 or so over what is already in the aftermarket as a stand alone. My SMT and supra injectors weren't half that.

Why would you want to go TRD? Do you still have a warrenty or something? Just get some supra injecotrs and if you must put the TRD decal on them and get them cheaper, and better ones and you can still wear your TRD decal with pride... plus, they are still toyota parts and are probably the same darn thing! TRD COULD have devolped them anyway... just my .02...

Good luck on the extra HP Grahm I still want a test drive!! Sam can't have all the fun now??

Anyone put supra injectors on a 1st gen? Or for that matter, any new injectors that showed improvement?

Austin - I'm not wedded to TRD at all, just curious about this new kit and why TRD just now is marketing it. As for the test drive - anytime big guy!!! Let me know when your up this way again.

-Graham

For everyone else (TOR?), any info on the kit would be appreciated.

Ever wish you were rich?

You'd have to research to put Supra injectors in the 1st gen, the older injectors generally have a lower resistance, and different connectors than new ones.

I had an '85 Supra, and installed a JDM engine, the 6M-GE (3.0) in place of my 5M-GE (2.8). This caused my check engine light to come on, because the computer wasn't compensating for the added .2 liters. So, I got ahold of a 6M-GE ECU from Japan via a Marine friend, it worked great, but it would shut the engine down at 125 MPH (200 KM), which pi$$ed me off, so I went back to the 5M ECU, and researched the 'net, then installed 6 injectors from a Toyota 4 cly, 4A-GE, which worked out well, still passed emissions in Jax,FL.

Check this link for older injector info:

TRD's 7th Injector for 3.4L SCs

Ok guys here it is straight from TRD's mouth on their new injector kit. I stress the word "injector" because there is only one in the package!

TRD Quote to dealers:

TRD is pleased to announce the 7th Injector Kit is now available for most 3.4L 4Runner and Tacoma Supercharged applications.

The new 7th Injector Kit features a supplemental injector that adds additional fuel directly into the inlet of the Supercharger, providing an intercooling effect for increased power and torque.

The new exclusive TRD Engine Management System, engineered to provide peak engine performance, is also included boosting power up to 21% over regular Supercharged units.

Packaged with easy-to-use step-by-step instructions, the new TRD 7th Injector Kit installs in about 2 hours, is fully warranted and smog legal in all 50 states. Part numbers and pricing are outlined below.

00602-17620-260 00-01 Tacoma*; 99-00 4Runner
00602-17620-261 02-03 Tacoma; 01-02 4Runner

Performance Specifications:

% Gain Gain
Std. Supercharger (peak): 223 HP @ 5000 RPM
264 lb.ft. @ 3500 RPM

Supercharger w/TRD ECU (peak): 262 HP @ 5200 RPM 17% 39 HP
279 lb.ft. @ 4000 RPM 6% 15 ft lb

Std. Supercharger (max): 219 ft lb @ 5200 RPM

Supercharger w/TRD ECU (max): 264 ft lb @ 5200 RPM 21% 45 ft lb

Std. Supercharger (max): 217 HP @ 5200 RPM

Supercharger w/TRD ECU (max): 262 HP @ 5200 RPM 21% 45 HP

Std. Supercharger (min): 95 HP @ 2000 RPM

Supercharger w/TRD ECU (min): 96 HP @ 2000 RPM 1% 1 HP

* Performance figures based on internal test performed by TRD on a 2000 Tacoma 5VZFE Engine.

Acceleration Times

Acceleration Tacoma Automatic Trans Tundra V8
S/C 7th Injector S/C Only Stock
0-60 7.5 8.3 8.6
0-80 12.2 13.5 15.0
20-40 2.7 3.0 2.8
40-60 4.0 4.3 4.4
60-80 5.6 6.3 6.9
1/4 mile time 15.8 16.2 16.6
1/4 mile speed 90.8 87.5 83.4

Like I said earlier, this is nothing to be excited about at all. Especially for $1299.00! Let me know when everyone is ready to order one, YEAH RIGHT. Guys, seriously I can get 6 Supra injecors for $400 less than the price of this injector.

What I find funny about it is that they are now injecting gas into the S/C, when the whole time they've been saying that injecting any fluids through the S/C is a bad thing, because it damages the coating on the inside. I'm wondering why they've all of a sudden changed their minds about this, what has seemed to be such a big deal in the past?

Chris

P.S. Does anyone know what type of material the S/C is made out of? Is it aluminum, cast aluminum, steel, etc.? And how about the engine block where the S/C rests on?

Three things:

1. Where on the intake does this injector install?

2. Can you still use the stock injectors?

3. What are the part numbers and years for the Supra injectors? They sounds like the better way to go but I want to weigh both options.

Supra Injectors

1. I don't know yet.

2. Yes you still can use the stock injectors.

3. For the 94 Supra injectors non-turbo, 23209-46050, you would be looking at $759.52 to your front door.

Let me know if anyone is interested in either the new TRD package or the supra injectors. Someone be the guinea pig on the new injecor
Todd

NOTE:
Just wanted to let everyone know that the TRD Injector kit is ONLY FOR CALIFORNIA SPEC VEHICLES ONLY! The map sensors are different on these vehicles vs the others.

Forgive my ignorance, but aren't all late model (3rd & 4th gen.) Toyotas 50-State emission certified? That means they conform to CA emssisions standards so that all could use this one kit.

Yes you are correct sir, I had never noticed that until you brought it up. Sure enough, after looking from a 98 to a 99 in my system there is no "california spec" label on every exhaust part. Oh well, I guess this counts me out of ever getting one.

Gadget, where o where is your new fuel delivery system?

Yea Gadget - any news.

Also, can you get away with just supra injectors or do you need colder plugs, and a new fuel pump, etc.?

Injector kit

Rob, did you already purchase it? If so how much, I could probably get you a better deal if you can back out on it. Let me know.

Thanks! I had a parts guy who owed me a favor, so I picked it up for a bit under a grand. It should be here mid next week for an install 10/4 or 10/5

Thanks for the offer. Had I seen this thread before I placed the order, I likely would have gone through you

This kit appears to be 50 state friendly...but contradics by stating "for dual-cat" vehicles. Those are Cal-spec vehicles since that is the only place that required the dual-cats. Hmmmm....
