Just little FYI, because I learned the hard way. My 06 Tundra came the TRD dual 45 deg exhaust with oval TRD etched tips. I would use some mothers polish on them every once in a while to get the scratches out and of course give them that polished look. After awhile however, the TRD etching starting going away! Just some FYI.. if you polish.. stay off the TRD.
BTW... LOOKS GOOD!!

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind.

The exhaust took about an hour to install, only because it was a PITA to get the old rusted piping off. The new one went on in about 15 minutes.

I noticed it does sound a bit better on youtube vs. replaying it on my digital camera, but I still am in search of a good angle to capture the exhaust sound at.

and not to be a dick back to you but a TRD muffler welded up and ran out back with all new tubing and a double walled tip cost me around a total of 250-300 dollars...

i don't know about your area, but after a year of having my trd exhaust on, the tip was flaking rust from the inside and the "TRD" on the tip had rusted and was flaking the chrome off the outside as well. i ended up having a stainless tip welded on and all is well again. that chrome trd tip looked sweet while it lasted, wish they would have done something better about making it last longer for those in snowy climates with salted roads. glad you like the exhaust, i'm happy with mine but in retrospect i should have just gone with a magnaflow and saved some $$, but it's done and i'm still happy with it minus the tip which is fixed now. looks good on your 4runner, enjoy!

Thanks pattycakes. Yeah, I can see how that could happen, I think it actually might be starting that process already on a very tiny part of the tip, but too small to see in a picture. Is there anything you recommend I do to to pre-treat the tip so it doesn't rust as quickly or as soon? I live where we get snow maybe once or twice per year, but used to drive my truck to NY a lot during the winter season. So it sees little if any salt now.

Got this on my 98 4runner. I had it installed back in 2002 after I got the supercharger but I noticed a slight decrease in performance. I now have the supercharger off and still feel the decrease. No mods really worked for me (supercharger, trd exhaust), in fact I didn't feel a thing after the supercharger and I did notice less power after the exhaust which came on after the SC. Oh well, some people have all the luck in getting a 4runner without problems. Things just got worse with the lift that I still have.
I too have the same problem with the tip after 7 years now. it's pretty much completely made of rust and flaking all over. You can still see the TRD etching but barely. I like the TRD because it wasn't as growly as all the others. That's just me, I didn't want to create too much attention. I especially don't like the noise when you're trying to accelarate hard but you're 4runner is only going 35mph and climbing slowly.

I feel like I only get a little extra kick in the 3000-5000 RPM range. And yeah, it's not nearly as loud or obnoxious as my old Dynomax. When accelerating from a stop I feel like the new exhaust actually smooths up the ride of the car compared to my past 2 systems.

i don't know if there's anything you can do to prevent it much. you could tape the tip and maybe spray some high temp rust preventative paint on the inside of the tip, and also see if you could do the same on the etched "TRD" on the outside of the tip just to cover the bare metal. i did something similar with mine, but only after the rust had started. i even tried my Dremel with a wire wheel to clean out the rust in the "TRD" part before applying the paint, but it came back anyway. too bad toyota didn't just make a stainless TRD tip in the first place! that's all i can suggest, or just let it happen and get a new tip down the road when the other one disintegrates.

good luck!
