Trashing a Ford

Hi Guys

This is just a bit a light relief:

Yesterday whilst trying to find a parking space I reversed across the front of a Ford Escort - just a glancing blow and I drove fotrward as soon as I heard the screach.

OK, so I check for damage: on a UK 4runner the exhaust juts out at the back (gotta get that sorted sometime) and there was just a trace of white paint on the outer edge of the pipe.

The Ford was buggered however: the valance between the lights was gouged and hanging off and both lights were bust! I had to double check that it was my ExHAUST PIPE that had hit him and nothing more serious - but it was!

I double checked the exhaust mounting and it was as solid as a rock - big respect!

Now of course my insurance will sort the guy out but I was just wondering if anyone else had any evidence of the strength of their vehicle?

or lack thereof?

I stopped a '85 buick of some kind that had a 350 crate in it.......

I was making a left on a divided highway and stopped in the enourmous median. (the median was about 50' wide and the turning area was about 100 yards long) The genious in the Buick thought I had kept on going and gunned his car into the back of my yota'. My rear bumper got flattened and driven into the cargo area by about 2 feet. The class III hitch, which had a 9" hitch in it at the time, got bent straight down, and both chrome pieces in front of the rear bumper but behind the rear wheels were contacting the rear wheels.

His damage, one busted head light and a slightly torn up hood and a bent bumper from my hitch - that's IT.

If he had had been pissed at me, I'd probably be in jail for what I'd have done to him. Fortuitously for me (and him) he was really apologetic - so my "pissed off factor" dropped big time....

Then 4 weeks later (3 days after getting my truck out of the shop) some stupid a$$, idiotic, mindless, senile, old fart in venice (fl) plowed into a subcompact behind me, ramming it into my rear end - again with a 9" hitch, and my truck then popped a fedex truck in front of me. I had MUCH less damage this time as my class 3 too most of the brunt as it pierced through the subcompact's radiator like a .30-06 through sliced cheese and slammed into his block.

Needless to say, I get REALLY nervous when Im sitting at a red light and people are approaching from behind....ESPECIALLY when back in Venice, FL....lol

Damn the slow driving 300 year old farts that cant read the dash nor see over it...

this brings back memories. i had an aftermarket rear bumper on, and it had a big drop hitch on it, rated to 10,000 lbs towing. the hitch was a part of the bumper, and was about a foot wide and hung down about 8in. it had a place for the ball and the chains. why a bumper this big was on it, i will never know. anyway, after work, i was backing out of my space when a co-worker pulled the wrong way out of his and hit me. i sustained 0 dammage, his intepid totalled over $2600. new hood, bumper, fender, and more. we get the accident reports and i go to leave. i am sitting at a red light (it is 10:00 pm) and BAM, i am knocked into the intersection. not hard, but pushed ito it. i had been hit by a crown vic. this same hitch went through his grille, through his ac condenser and radiator, the bumper took out his headlights, front molding over grill, and messed up his hood. i pulled my truck out of his car only to find, no dammage.

after this, i decide to get rid of this bumper. 2 weeks later at a stop sign, rear ended again. by a hyundai. went under the back end of my truck. this time i had damage. she bent my liscense plate. and had half of her paint taken off of her hood. so far, i have been impresed.

About 3 months ago an absent minded pothead bumped me with his Camaro in traffic. I have a pretty hefty Reese hitch on my 4Runner, and as everyone knows, camaro's don't really have much of a front bumper. It dented his hood pretty bad, too bad for him. I had a little red paint on my hitch, which came off with some engine degreaser. Friggin' stoners.

You guys ever think of getting something like this?

I have one on my Tacoma... and I like the looks of it.
Haven't seen how well it'll hold up in an accident but hey - couldn't hurt, right?

... okay have a picture with a 4Runner's version - sorry, it's kinda hard to see

Some guy in a F-350 slammed into me at 35mph years ago. I had a bike rack attached to my hitch and I believe that increased the damage to the tune of $7,000. I came out with a hurt back and whiplash. Both me and truck are fine now.

I got hit from behind by a 90 mazda 323. He hit me at about 10mph, I heard glass shattering and crunch noise, I was pissed! I flung my door open looked at my truck and, nothing! His car was messed up though. Headlights smashed out, hood crumpled back, and my hitch had literally peeled of the top of his bumper. Cost of repair for him $1,600. Me, $0. I only realized that my bumper was dented slightly when I had a garage inspect it. I love metal trucks.

neat story about truck bumpers:

Two guys in town (Lompoc, Ca. for anyone interested.) decided to have a pull-off: a 90's toyota pickup, and a late 90's dodge ram. (I am not completely sure of the year on either of these.) Anyways, the pickup had a hitch setup, and the dodge used the stock bumper. Needless to say, the dodge pulled his bumper off, and it was anything but clean Obviously having the hitch in the back seems to help prevent a lot of damage.

Saved Our Life!

'Mytruck' saved our life...I'm pretty sure.
My wife and I were rear-ended by a drunk in a Volvo a few years ago. He really plowed us...we were stopped at a light, and he was doing almost freeway speed. His car was totaled..front end pushed right up to the windshield. I was able to drive my truck ('89 Extracab SR5 4X4) home. Frame wasn't even moved. We were sore...but alive. Had we been in my wife's Civic, we might be dead right now.
Body shop fixed the cosmetic damage, and I'm STILL driving it! Runs true, quite, original engine and tranny, burns no oil...best part: 200,000 miles (and counting) !!

A few years ago when I had my Explorer, I was backing out of my garage to go to class. A buddy of mine pulled into my driveway really quick to mess with me, and I didn't see him. I backed right into his Legend. I dented his hood, broke his grille, and cracked his right headlight. No damage to my Explorer whatsoever. Mr T. pity's the fool who doesn't drive a truck.
