Transmission pan bolt torque spec ?

Transmission pan bolt torque spec ?

My service manual indicates 65 ftlbs for the transmission pan bolts.
That 'aint right is it ?

i believe it somwhere around 13 maybe even less. just snug em up then a little less than a 1/4 turn

It's 65 all right but NOT ft-lbs, it's IN-LBS. That would be 5.41 ft-lbs.

Transmission pan bolt torque.

Please don’t torque transmission pan bolts to 65 ft./lb or even 65 in/lb. The Haynes manual specifies 3-4 ft/lb which is 36-48 in/lb. I’m not even sure why torque is specified in ft/lb when under 25 ft/lb. In/lb is a better value when torque wrenches are already dialed with in/lb and is more accurate generally.

using too high of torque on pans or valve covers will crush the gasket and render it useless when heat and oil are added to the wrinkled rubber gasket and probably cork gaskets as well.
