Toyota Rusting Bad!!
Ok guys i know all the owners of older toyotas living in areas where it snows have some sort of rusting goin on..atleast most of them around here do..Mine is starting to rust over my fender flared and at the front of my rear tires and behind them..O'yea forgot to mention the hole in my driver sider cab corner...What this is leading to is where can i get replacement body panels and cab corners from??
..and how are u guys preventing rust?

sadly, i think it's just part of owning a toyota. guess you can't have it all, but i'd rather drive a rusted out yota that is in excellent mechanical shape than something with a perfect body and unreliable drivetrain

dude, Im from Michigan and I have RUST in the same exact spots you just mentioned... as well as in a few other places. mines a 1994 that looks like a 1984 now.
I plan on welding in some patch panels over the winter time and re-spraying it.

Seriously, I see all the mod pics you guys post and read all the pride you take in your vehicles. And then I notice all the rust on your frames, under-body, and I remember KS, salty roads and getting the cancer cut out of my '66 Mustang. I'm driving a 9 year old vehicle and the only rust is from a battery case cracking open. There's a reason folks advertise that their cars are FL, TX, Southern NM, AZ and CA. I can fix a lot of mechanical things, or get them fixed, but rust is kinda like ugly...it goes clean to the bone.
Sell it...Get another one when you get there.

Floor panels can either be fixed by removing the material that is rusted and using some thick fiberglass matting (stuff for boat repairs) to put in it's place also chicken wire put into the patch works as well I had a 86.5 Nissan that most of the floor holes I did up with fiberglass.
For flares and stuff grind as much rust as you can away and use body filler.
Other than that if you want to put metal there you will need thin stuff and welding all that metal would be expensive so I would say patch it and keep it or sell it's your choice.
I have dealt and am still dealing with the rust monster it's a fact of life living in the salt belt.
