I have a black 2002 sport edition as well. I notice the same thing. Especially after polishing, the swirls are very noticeable. Oh well, maybe I'll try a different line of products.

Guys,

Two solutions: get a nice, natural lambswool mitt or boar's hair brush (more expensive) and use Zaino Bros.

To all you guys who have black, get Zaino. It will get rid of the swirl marks. It's a bit expensive, but worth it. This also goes for anyone/color who wants a glass shine on their rig.

Guys and gals:

The swirl marks are caused by your cheap wash mitt which most likely contains embedded dirt particles. When you wash with it, you are lightly scratching your 4runner w/ this "sandpaper" mitt. Look at your vehicle and notice the pattern of the swirl marks. What else do you use on your 4runner that would make that pattern?

I learned that the hard way when I had my black 99. Claying didn't help as claying only gets off the surface contaminants. Polishing did help alot but the stuff I used didn't quite cut the mustard---even with the Corey Cable.

I never did get a chance to use Zaino Bros on the 99 b/f I gave it to my brother but I did use it on my wife's Emerald green Camry which had even WORSE swirl marks. See my post here and check out the pic which only has the base coat and 1 coat of the polish:

Zaino rocks, baby!

Seriously, I tried just about everything: Meguiars, 3M, some homegrown county fair-type stuff, Meguiar's Scratch X (big ass joke, etc. One day of the Zaino convinced me.

Good luck and keep it clean!

Zaino Bros

These products are amazing. I used it on my 02 4-Runner which is Pearl Gold/clearcoat and my wifes white 02 pre-Runner.

My 4-Runner has a clear coat on it so I used the Z1, Z5, Z2 and the Z6 between coats of Z5 and the Z2.

The Z6 if applied after the final polishing acts like RainX for dirt and dust. Nothing sticks to this finish.

Zaino only takes mail orders but they are fast. I snail mailed my order form on a Monday and recieved my order via UPS the next Monday.

My wifes white truck shines so much it hurts your eyes to look at without sunglasses.
