Angry 96 4Runner Sport 4WD won't engage

I have a 964Runner Sport and the 4WD won't engage, the fuse looks good and I can hear a clicking from under the glove box when I try and shift to 4WD, but the indicator light will not light up and it will nto engage. Any ideas.

Hi Tom, and welcome to the forum.
I'll take a guess here, and perhaps someone else will have some info.

There should be a series of vac hoses going to the ADD system to engage the 4WD.
Perhaps one of the hoses came off?

I'm not sure on a 3rd gen where the vac junction box is, but maybe a hose slipped off there, or down at the system up front where the actuator is for the axle.

If you find out, let us know.

Has it been awhile since 4WD was used. I figured out very quickly that if I don't use my 4WD very often, it has problems engaging. Try engaging 4WD HI while you're moving and drive around (on any surface) for 10 minutes or so and see what happens.

look under your hood for a line witha blue and white check valve. It will look like the one below, but if you are not supercharged, yours will be connected to a metal line that ends up by the throttle body. (ignore the writing on the pic)

96 4Runner 4WD won't engage

I went to the garage this morning and the mecanic look at the issue and identified the following, power going to transfer case, dirve shaft turning, NO suction coming from the vac. Does this mean the vac itself is faulty ???

Ahhhhh, I see I was right

That's what I suspected.
I have seen this happen on a lot of rigs including a guy's Dodge truck at work one time.
