Got my locker today!!

Well after a few weeks of research I finally bought a Detroit Soft Locker for my Runner. I will have it installed next week. After my last 4x adventure, and spending 1.5 hours digging myself out of the hole my 1 rear tire dug. I am looking forward to my next trip.

Anyone who has one have any install advise? or advise in general?

Thanks in advance

Are you going to be doing the install yourself? If you plan on adding bigger tires and a lift in the future, now is a great time to regear your vehicle as well !!!

Beowulf, that is a great suggestion! As a matter of fact my 4.88 gears and front and rear air locker are going in as we speak!!! I cannot wait to finally drive with the correct gear ratio!!! YYAAAA

According to my vin plate inside my drivers door my axle code is G144. Looking at this I believe I already have 4.88 gears. Am I wrong?
I looked it up on this chart

nope, you're right. you have an automatic transmisison, right? some 4Runners came with 4.88 gears to compensate for the 31" tire package and the auto tranny. the downfall to this is that from what i've read, you can't regear your differential. i don't know why and i could be wrong. just telling you what i've heard.

i have a strange question now after reading this thread... i went out and checked mine.. and mine reads G254, which is a 4.56 ratio i think. the question is... right before the code, i have A/TM
does that mean it was built with an automatic? Cause i have a manual... and secondly.. it says the tires were p225/75r15 and when i got it, it had 31's... so, i guess what im asking, is does this make sense to anyone else?
