Towing with 285's.

How would I be towing up to 3K pounds with 285's and 4.10's. I kno with 3.90's it is terrible, and I hope regear by the end of summer to 4.56's...but how would I do until then?>

I towed my 2 jet skis last summer with my 285/75R16s with 4:10s and my supercharger and it was a dawg. Now I have the 4:56s, I'm looking forward to see how much better it will be.

My rig is equipped the same as yours: 285's with 4.10's. Last fall, I towed a 5000 pound boat (maximum towing capacity) for about 20 miles to my house. I was planning to clean it up and get it ready to put it into storage, about 50 miles away. But, after the 20 mile trip, I gave up and called my dad with his V10 powered F-250. It towed the boat like nothing was behind it.

I likely won't tow our boat with the Runner again...saying it's a dog is an understatement! If you're towing up to ~3500 pounds or less, you should be fine. It's amazing how much power loss there is with 285's and stock gearing.

It barely tows itself at 70 with 285's and 4:10s. I pulled an empty 8x12 flat bed 70 miles. That trip was painful. It couldn't maintain highway speed and got less than 10mpg.
