as mentioned above on 86-88 the bolt can sag through the adjuster!!!!
yes...... look up my post on the "broken anchor arm" this happened to my 85 IFS 4x2....
upgraded with a version from the 89 era... new design... diagram in that thread.....

Good news, stronger bolts should be cheap. Typically the cap screw is Class 12.9 and the bolt class 10. I'm not exactly sure of why that is. But, you can get som big old bolts for about 60 cents each at www.boltdepot.com. Also, you can check www.mcmaster.com.
However, given the typical life span of the t-bar bolts, as said, a little grease should keep 'em in good shape for years and years.
