TJM with 1" body lift

What steps need to be taken (if any) to mount a TJM T-17 to a 4Runner with a 1" body lift.
thanks

It moves up high enough with a 1" BL, 2" and your out of luck.

Did you not use the body lift bumper bracket? You just loosened the t-17 and lifted it up?

The BL bracket does not work with the TJM brackets, in fact they are completely different.

Yes I just loosened it up and moved the bumper up. There is a bit of adjustablility in the TJM mounts. With no BL it was at the lowest point, with the BL it is at the highest.

2" Body Lift

Not knowing what the TJM mounting looks like, would it not be possible to fab some workable additional mounting brackets for the TJM to fit with a 2" body lift? Or is this not only impractical but impossible? This will eventually be an issue for me in the future.

I don't think I would want to winch with a bumer adjusted like that. Too much leverage being placed at the bottom of the mounts.

Basically the bumper moved 3/8" to 1/2" higher, there still is a 1/2" gap with the 1" BL.

i agree with this.

-- this is a pic after my 1" body lift --

when my IFS flexes all the way out, the TJM actually comes really close to making contact with the OE grille. the 1/2" gap is a good thing.

I found this article on the NE TTora page it may work for you if you decide to do a 2" BL.
I know some of the brackets are not the same but it is the same principal.

Here it goes:

From NM Chapter President DAVIDTACO

This is going to be really hard to write, so guys I’ll try and do my best to explain it. What is that saying….”Clear Only If Known” Well for you people that’s may already have a TJM and out it on yourself, you will have a much better idea what I am talking about, since you have seen the brackets.

Ok what I did was mount the brackets to the frame where they are meant to go. Each bracket mounts with 2 bolts under the frame (where your stock tow hooks are), and with 2 bolts where the original bumper mounts. I figured it would be strongest if I left the bracket this way. So where I cut my bracket was towards the top, where it angles to match the bumper. I measured up 2” and cut away. Now the bumper can be lifted up 2”’s perfectly. Ok now all my blot holes are off, from the bracket to the bumper. Well lucky enough 1 bolt hole on each side was 2”s form the other so I am able to get one bolt in with out drilling. Know I had another guy pivot the bumper to where it was level and looked correct. Then I marked where I need to drill on the bumper mount on each side, and the bracket on each side. I was still able to use one hole in the bumper on each side, and one hole in the bracket on each side. So marking it was simple. Slapped the bolts in and I was done. I was about a 4 hour project making sure everything would line and so on.. I is not hard at all, just time consuming. You can not do this with a 3” body lift, or at least I would not recommend it.

Another way to do it. Mount the brackets to the frame where they are meant to go. This time cut a 2” but 5.5” plate and weld it to the top of the bracket, this gives to the extra 2”s that was cut off. Carry all the holes up 2”s Mark and drill. Now all your holes line up with out having to but the bumper on a head of time. I was planning on doing this, but figured it would be plenty strong they way I did it, because I still got all 3 bolts in on each side. This may be a good way for a 3” body lift, be with a 3” plate welded on top you will have just about all your bolts going through that.

And the last way I thought off. I believe this may be a good way for a 3” body lift, but you may want to look into it. But if you can weld do this. Take the bracket and cut off the bottom leg (the one the mounts under the frame) and get a piece of angle iron, cut it 3”s and weld this in the place where you cut. Now it drops it down 3”s which raises the bracket up 3” OK not the other 2 bolts are 3”s off. Well this 2 bolt to where the stock bumper is suppose to bolt too, But if you notice it will line up with the Body lift extend bracket for the stock bumper. You can use this, if you don’t plan on “using” your bumper, other wise I would get some stronger steel and use it as your pattern and bolt it in place. Now bolt your bracket up, and stick your bumper on and adjust it accordingly and you’re done. You can also do this for a 2” lift, but It’s up to you. I believe it you can reinforce the bracket where you added the extension that this could be very strong.

I hope all this makes since, I am sure if you haven’t seen the bracket in person you maybe a little lost, but all this ways are pretty simple. Have a local wrench a thon and ya’ll be set. Fell free to e-mail with ANY questions you may have. I hope that these pictures help explain where you may have gotten lost.

-David (Davidtaco)
NM President

Anyway I hope this helps. I'll be having to do this to mount mine possible since I am doing a custom 1.4" body lift and thought I would put this out there for others.
I hope I didn't offend anyone by posting someones tech info but this was a good article.
Anyways here's thier web page: http://ttora-ne.com/newsite/main.htm

thats a TJM T-17. there are no tabs, but there might be holes, otherwise you have to drill your own holes
