32x11.50R15 OR 33x10.50R15 (BFG MT KO)

I am in the need of new tires. Current Specs: 1994 4Runner SR5 V6 5 Sp, 4.56 gears, 31x0.50R15 Dunlop Radial RVs.

End of Summer: So I am going to crank the torsion bars about 1.5-2" with a set of Ball Joint spacers and in the rear with OME meduim coils, for about 2" of total lift.
I am not doing any hard core offroading. Mainly the 4Runner is used for traveling, but I like to adventure on the back country roads. When it snows my 4Runner is the vehicle of choice to take out.
Also in the future (Next Summer Hopefully) I want to install ARB Bull Bar different running board/rock sliders and long term Dual ARB Air Lockers.


Well with setting up the game plan now.
What size tires should I get? Tires are to be mounted on to Stock Yota wheels 15x7 (the split 4 spoke).
The two choices are 32x11.5R15 or 33x10.5R15. The tire of choice is BFG MT KM both are priced at $150 mounted and balanced.

So the debate is go an inch wider and inch shorter (32x11.5)OR inch taller and inch skinner (33x10.5). [if 33s rub a little I can always add a Roger Brown 1-2" body lift]

 

I went with 33x12.50 BFG M/T KM's and I'm hoping to not have a problem...so we'll see, lift and tires go on tomorrow.

I'll let ya know how that goes...if it was me I'd go for the 33's in your situation...

i second the 33's, but in 12.5 instead of 10.5.

 

I had the same debate, went with the 32's. I didn't think it was worth the trouble to jump to 33's, much easier for the 32's. So far I'm very impressed with them, they have done everything I wanted them to, and passed some 'tests' I did in which I didn't think they would pass. They sure showed me a thing or two.

I'd say for gearing issues, and since you aren't going to be offroading mainly, stick with a small jump with the 32's.

 

If you are not going to wheel it or gear it, then stick with 31's.

If you are hell bent on new rubber, I would snag the skinny 33's since the contact area versus height is probably a wash.

 

without hijacking the thread, why do some tires go by 33x10.5 whatever, as opposed to 285/70, etc. ? i hope this is an okay place to ask!


oh, and wvuviv, if you plan on wheeling it, wider always gives a bigger footprint.

 

because the p-metric system sucks! i'd rather be able to tell how tall my tire is in one glance, thank you

and as for the question, i'd go with the 33s. the narrower footprint is nice for driving on the road -- less drag

anybody have any ideas how much it would cost to regear my '99 4runner? I think I might go for 32's cuz a lot of people complained about runbbing with a 3" revtek lift with 33's. Plus, smaller, the less power you lose. In your case, it wouldn't matter cuz you've regeared. I'd go for 12.50 fatties. 10.50 will look wimpy.
