I was checking the tire pressure on my 2003 runner (around 400 miles) for the 1st time and the son of a guns were at 45-46 psi! On the door it says 32 psi which seems low to me. I have 17's and the Dunflops. Why would the dealer inflate them that high. It seems like that would make the truck ride rougher and thus be harder to sell? What do you guys recommend (besides Michelins!)

That is WAY TO HIGH! Put them back down to 32, or 35 MAX!

I thought someone posted that 38 PSI was the magic number for the 4th gen.

 

But I can't remember which board it was on and I have not been able to find the post. Another guy's dealer had done the same thing - that's what made me think to check them and find out they were at 45 & 47. I will try 38 and see how it goes.

The 38 PSI recommendation was somewhere on this board. If it still rides stiff then let some out.

your toyota dealer tech's forgot to let the air out of the tires during the pre delivery inspection, it happens all the time. the celicas and rav4's usually have over 50psi when they come off the truck. they are filled high for shipping purposes. some times we only let out a little because around 32psi ( which is what toyota recomends) the tires can "look" like they are flat.

on dunlops, id run 32psi

it appears the frickin' stealer forgot to do a bunch of stuff when we took delivery. you know, I've been back to my dealer twice to ask about turning of the automatice DRL's and both times he's told me they can't be turned off, that is not a prgrammable option! Tomorrow I am heading down there with my owners manual opened to page 101 and I'm going to make him read what it says at the bottom of the first column aloud on the PA system. well, maybe not that obnoxious but he'll know I'm pissed!

 

wow, if they are open on a sunday, let alone one before a holiday that is amazing, and you are lucky to have one open on sunday in your area.

but, dont go to a service writer, go right to a tech. and dont go on a saturday or sunday. go on a monday at 4pm 9 times outta 10 the crew on a weekend wont have a master or expert tech. we have the 19 year old fast and furious guys for the weekend around here. they will just tell you to get hyper white drls or something,lol

btw, the stealer is your friend...unless you want pep boys to touch your truck. i have a whole collection of tools from there --back when i was in high school (before i didnt know jack) all their techs would do was barely fix a problem and then leave a wrench or two in the engine compartment. If the dealer cant turn your drls off, call toyota. that really raises hell around the service drive

Herd72: Thanks for posting that. I just picked up my 4Runner yesterday. When I got home today, I looked at the tires and thought they looked over inflated. And the ride had been a bit stiff. So I checked the tire pressure. I don't know how high it was because my guage only goes to 40 psi :pat:

 

Keep in mind that when you'll get different readings depending on if you check them cold (been sitting) or hot (driving) They will pump up 3-4 lbs after beeing driven.

 

Mine were 35PSI from the dealer and I read the thread here about 38 being "optimum" but it road alot harder at 38 PSI and I went back to 35.

I'm, still currently running the 17 inch Dunflops but not for long...

 

Ant: Yes, I know. They were still warm, so I set them to 36. That way they probably won't be less than 32 cold.

Based on the amount of air I had to let out before the guage moved below 40, I'd guess they were close to 50 psi.
