I have ProComp Xterrains 31x10.5 on my 95 Runner right now. Im pretty impressed with how the handle on and off road but Im doing a whole lot more highway driving than offroad driving as my girl lives in southern Oregon and Im in CA. This tire is a little aggressive for the freeway and is starting to get pretty noisy inside and making some things vibrate. Probably affecting my mileage too? Im wondering if I should just sell these and get a nice A/T tire? And if I do go that route, what would you all recommend I get for A/T tire? Something that will still do me good when I hit the trails and in snow/rain.

 

You should do a search because this topic comes up all the time. You will find that the Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revos are extremely popular with the users here. Most prefer them to the BFG A/Ts though there are some BFG loyalists here as well. I got the non-Revo Dueller A/Ts and have really enjoyed them. Plus they are sold at Costco for quite a bit less than anywhere else.

 

While some people favor Goodyears, I can't recommend BFG All-Terrain TA KOs enough.

They last forever, don't generate much noise, and are super durable.

If by "forever" you mean about 35K miles then I agree. I have these
now (came with my truck) and now need to go shopping (currently at 37K mi).

I don't understand why the wet traction isn't better with these tires. In
2WD mode on wet roads I get a good bit of tire spin when pulling out into
traffic. Since I drive 95% on road I'm wondering if there isn't something
better out there (wet traction and tread wear).

They are good enough for most off roading and they are absolutely killer in the rain and snow.

Plus just in case you are worried about looks they really look much more aggressive in person than in a picture. Get the C or D rating for the firmer sidewalls and the deeper tread depth. ( I have the D rated in the 265 75 16 and since I am lifting next week I will be getting 285 revos when these wear out)

Truly I can't say enough good things about this tire.

 

Another vote for Revo. Had 16k miles on it, excellent wet traction and great for offroad. I am running 275/70/16 now, plan to get the 285 when I need some new one.

 

Yeah it sounds like the Revo's are gonna be what you want...thats what I would have gotten but I do a good bit of off-roading and wanted to be sure that the tires could take the beating. I live on a dirt road and we get some mean rocks out here...when they grade our road my mom cant even take her car out because of all the crap that gets dug up.

These BFG M/T's are seriously the nicest tire that I've ever owned...when it comes time to replace them, I'll be putting the exact same tire back on.

Revos...just got them and they are quiet and grippy.

 

The BFG's that come with the truck aren't the ones that last very long. The Rugged Trails are only so-so tires, the All Terrain KO's are the nice ones and they do last a long time. Just my .02 cents

 

I have the AT/KO's on my work truck and the Revo's on the 4Runner since it is the traveling highway vehicle.

I recommended the Revos for the highway use that he is doing. But I would go with the KO's for off road if that is his primary need.

I went with the 265/75/16 Revos after doing a lot of research. Most of my driving is on the highway but I wanted a tire that would do well off-road as well. They are even quieter than my old Michelin ATXs(wierd as they're way more agressive), fairly agressive tread and look for an AT, and they clear mud pretty well for an AT, and rock in the rain.

I was worried about having to regear right away so I bought the 265/75/16s. I was right about the noticable powerloss so I'm glad I did. However, now I wish I had gone ahead and bitten the bullet with the 285/75/16s including a re-gear. Thinking of selling or trading them out.....

 

I've got just about the same problem but I don't have to drive to Oregon, just to Sonoma to visit the girlfriend. I wish the Revo's weren't so expensive, but they sound like the best choice. I've got a friend with some on his Montero and they gripped better on and off road then my buddys jeep with BFG A/T's.

 

Haven't heard much about the Toyo Open Country A/T. But it looks like a good tire. Streetable, but aggressive enough for off-roading..

Wow, more than enough info. Thanks everyone. Im leaning towards the Revo ATs. I saw them on a guys Taco the other day and they still look pretty aggressive for an AT. And I think someone mentioned that you can get them at Costco? Ill check that out.
