That's because you can't, the ECU controls the timing.

Hehehe.....no, they can't do anything with it either.
You can't adjust the ignition timing, period.

WTF is a rev off? Do you just sit there and rev your engine?

I was wondering the same thing....

So you basically started out with the truck running fine, entered this rev-off and now it backfires under load? and how's the idle?

Sounds more like you might have slipped a tooth or two on the timing belt.
You also could have burnt a valve or two, but you'd need to do a compression check.

They must just sit there and tach em up, just till the valves float, which is right before the the block becomes windowed?

It is possible to at least check the timing to see if its off. Do you have a haynes manual? It tells you step by step in there...

I have one so if nec. I can scan the pages up for you to see. Like MTL_Runner said...it is possible you slipped a tooth, I'd lean more towards the burning of the valves or something if its backfiring though.

For the record...you have a timing chain...not a belt.

Honestly, whats the point of the "Rev Off" ???? See who spends most money repairing afterwards?

Edit: What does the winner get?

So you basically line up and just jam the pedal until you get to the rev limiter and hold it there until your engine dies? How did you come in 3rd without your engine blowing up then?
