There are pros and cons to both sides. Once you tear something apart, you need to know how it goes back together. Dealers and repair shops all the time only replace the bad parts. However, if you takes something off, and it is cheap to replace, why not get the free labor and put it back on?

I think you can go overboard. If you are going to replace all the bearings and seals, why not check the valves. Why not rebuild the head while you are in there? Why not rebuild the long block?

Now, I think it might be a good time to replace the radiator, put in some Evan's coolant, replace all the belts etc. If you feel the need to replace the waterpump, go for it.


Bottom line, you don't want the timing belt or parts under there going on you in the middle of nowhere.
