Throttle Cable adjustment on 2002 Taco (pix)
Noticed that one of the cables (colored red) coming off my throttle assembly seemed loose today, and I was wondering how this cable needed to be adjusted? Does it need to have no play in it, like the throttle cable or is it supposed to be loose. I can't take the cable any tighter, as the adjustment is maxed. Do i need to get a new cable?
Also could someon please tell me what the function of the part circled in red is? Thanks!

It is called a dashpot. It's purpose is to keep the throttle from slamming shut which would create a rich condition. This dashpot delays the throttle blades from completely closing to reduce emissions or basically it acts like a cushion. On some FI cars it also prevents the car from stalling due to the idle speed motor being too slow, on some cars.

Yeah, I noticed that when I first start my Taco up in the morning, the engine idles at like 1,500rpm. But after driving for a while it will start to idle around a 1,000rpm. Is this the function of the dashpot?
I don't have emissions regulations where I live, which allows me to have no catalytic converters. I was going to replace the exhaust, headers-back with mandrel bent pipe and a Flowmaster super44 muffler. I know when I did this on my brother's Silverado that it sped the idle up. Can I expect the same thing here, where I just need to adjust the set screw on the throttle asm. to keep the idle in check?

LEAVE ALL THAT ALONE! You can get into trouble quick changing those adjustsments unless you have an obvious hot idle or cold upidle problem. Too many functions feed off the throttle body.

so would having a cold engine ilde of 1500-1750rpm count as a problem?
When I start my truck up from a completely cold state, I get this fast idle that goes away as soon as the motor is up to temp. The idle sounds smooth and constant, just fast. How would I go about fixing this? or is this normal?
