my meth/timing tune-up will probably take a backseat this week as it's blacktail season up here... but soon enough...

funny thought too, I might be moving to San Antonio for a couple years in the somewhat near future, we should race if I ever get down that way...!
LOL, i know some guys down there, sadly don't ever really head down that way. Texas is a big stinking state, 3 hour drive just down there and that is not even the coast, it takes 12 FULL hours to drive across the whole state and from DFW to Cail, you are halfway to cail when you hit el paso, not even out of the state, oh and that alone is a 10 hour drive.

Quick Texas triva for you.

I used to think Montana was a big state, takes forever to drive across... then I drove the length of CA... soon enough I will experience TX hahaha

how many miles do you have on your runner btw? I'm sitting at 146k on my taco with nothing done to it besides a bad TPS sensor 5 years ago and front brakes redone 2 years ago. I put the SC on at 126k last september, been running alky since 2008 though.

I live in San Antonio. We can chill and race! Haha there is a large toyota group down here. You should check out the website my buddy and I just started for local wheelers: www.hillcountryterritoryoffroad.com
My buddy Shawn on there just bought a 95 4Runner with a blown 3slow and is swapping in a 7MGTE motor and full widths under it. We are also doing a expedition wheeling trip to Moab and Colorado this summer.

Also my runner has 197k on it and I supercharged it and around 185k. Runs great and pulls hard. I just have to replace my knock sensors as I'm getting a CEL from them.

It had 125k when i got it, i installed the SC at around 128k and it now has about 138k or so.

No issues at all with it, course when i first got it i did a complete tune up but still it has not needed a thing and i abuse it.

Why a 7m vs a 2j? for the little extra cost it is well worth it. Should be nice either way.

These 5vz's are bullet proof, they take a licking and keep on ticking.

If you need any help with fab work or engien work check out www.emspowered.com. They just opened a shop in Austin, got one of the best fab guys around, used to do all of boost logics fab work till they outsourced. They also make exhausts for Land cruisers and do a whole lot with MR2's.

I'm hoping to get 500k miles on my taco (and my runner), the only thing that will stop them is theft or destruction. I bought my taco with 52k on it 3 years old, my runner I bought at 149k, it has 162k now...

my biggest hope is that the SC holds up for a while before I have to replace the internals. that small pulley probably speeds up it's demise but it sure is fun!

A rebuit SC will last about 50k miles normally before it could use new bearings and could go as much as 75k-100k before being a real problem.

yup... I'll be happy as long as I get 50k at least out of her before I suffer any rebuilds or oil leaks, I should get considerably more though, I bought mine brand spankin' new outta the box from trdparts4u.com ($2700 delivered).

I wonder if the meth injection does anything to the SC, I wouldn't think it would really do anything good or bad, any thoughts?

If it was brand new, you should easily see 50k+ miles even with the smaller pulley.

Nah, the meth injection won't effect it i would think, it will keep it nice and clean but should not hurt it.

I can also now give you a better awnser to whoever asked how much methanol i am using.

With my large 7 gpm nozzle (2x the size recomended for our size motors), i am using about 1 gallon of 50/50 water/methanol (1/2 gallon of methanol) per tank of gas depending on how i drive. If i drive it harder like i did the first few weeks i got less and if i was to drive like grandma (yeah right) i could go severl tanks of gas between fill ups.

yup... I drove almost 800 miles this weekend (hunting blacktail deer) and did an experiment. It's about a 2hr drive each way, 3 round trips total, I drove like grandma (still fast but accelerated slow) on the return trips, I only used about a pint of methanol total (about 200 miles) and then drove with my foot mashed on either pedal the whole way out and went thru 3/4 gal. driving habits make a huge difference!

Well, figured I would bump this up and give ya'll an update on some interesting things i found out after finishing up my tune this week.

So I found a fwe interesting things, first off i tried some differnt mixtures of meth/water and decided to tune each of them to really see what works best.

Well after a lot of tuning i can safly say that the butt dyno likes the almost pure meth setup the best by far. The water seemed ot make it bog some and it was just not as strong.

After finishing the tune on almost pure meth with my 7gph nozzle i also found that my piggy back setup was basically useless. I had to disconnect the AFR Calibrator to keep the AFR's in the right area when in closed loop boost, it works perfect now actually.

I then started tuning the URD 7th injector ECU, ended up clearing it out, all zeros except for a tiny bit of fuel in the 4500-5500 range. So i basically made the $1200 i spent on all those fuel mods pointless by installing the meth kit lol.

This is a very real option for those wanting to install a supercharger, a meth kit with a nozzle around 7gph and a nice progressive controller is easily tunable with the contorller/pump pressure/nozzle size/mixture of water & meth, to handle the demands on a stock setup and with a better controller i bet i could even make it work on my 2.2 pulley and headers setup.

Get yourself a nice aquamist setup and it is EASILY within reach to use the meth kit in place of the 7th injector kit and get more power out of it too boot.

So for those looking to do a supercharger install, your total cost just got a lot cheaper.

I also realized i was getting better intake temps from the meth after feeling the SC after some driving/when playing around with it. So i did some testing and here is a nice little example of how fast and how much it drops temps:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6bprXFxN4o

Loving this meth injection more and more every day, no idea why i did not do it earlier. WELL worth the cost.

Very nice TA!! thanks for doing the homework for the rest of us, very informative and yet another reason why folks should be using meth injection.

I was amazed at how much the temps came down in such a short time...

more timing, more boost, more power! as said by devil's own....

No problem i love testing things for myself to see what is really up. Then i figure why not share it with everyone else while i am doing it anyways instead of just locking it away to go to waste.

Oh, i can also now tell you that after a pizza run last night my truck is significantly faster than a V8 Explorer even when he gets the jump. Was at a stop light minding my own business and when it turned green the guy next to me lights up the tires and the exhaust started howling, well of course i had to answer back. By the end of the intersection we were neck and neck even with his headstart.

By the end of 1st gear i was walking away, by the end of 2nd he was a distant memory. Was real funny since he made all this racket trying to keep up and me in 4wd takes off without a pee and stock exhaust means i sound stock and i just walk away from him.

Yeah, i get kids in all sorts of cars all the time that will race anything, only to be embarresed. Another one last night. My MR2 is way faster but the problem with it is it is also loud and it is obious, plus the long black lines you leave behind make it hard to get out of trouble should you be caught.

the 4runner is not as fast but i can enjoy it and floor it anytime i feel like it and attract no unwanted attention. It is real fun to just drive around.

Out on an open road though, nothing is quite like that MR2.

Did some minor off-roading today, i filmed it but it is nothing exciting so no reason to post it, got it a little dirty and had fun though.

Found my G-tech in the closet today so decided to toss it on the 4runner. Did some runs and it is not bad.

With some extra weight in the back and the tune running a little rich (still trying to nail down the perfect meth/water mixture , this mix is a little rich) it managed:

60ft = 2.4
0-60 = 7.86 sec
1/8th mile = 10.27 @ ~70mph (forgot exact)
1/4 mile = 15.94 @ 90mph

Not bad at all for the street, had some traction issues on the start as shown by the slow 60 ft's, at the track i was doing consistant 2.2 60ft which would put it in the mid 15's and lower the 0-60 time even more.

The MPH is also impressive, shows i gained around 20-30rwhp with the smaller pulley and meth injection.

Not fast but it is pretty quick. I am happy.
