ive got a 3.4l in my 94 pickup and i want to instal an aftermarket temp gauge. i just dont know where to install it. i know it needs to go in the engine block in a water jacket. in not a big fan of drilling into the engine block and sure dont know where to drill into it if that were the case. so if anybody has installed one and could clue me in that would be great thank for the help.

I was thinking of doing the tranny gauge and that thread doesn't work on Gadgets page!

 

I installed an oil pressure, tranny temp and volt guage.

For the oil sensor(s) there are 2 ports right by the oil filter on the 3.4 that use a but hex bit to get out but have standard 3/8 NPT threas in them. I just got a 3/8 - 1/8 NPT adapter from home depot and put it there. Be careful though, one of the ports has a spring and ball behind it. You can still use it just make sure them you put the spring and ball back when you put it back together.

Now if you want the water temp then i don't know where to put it, i assume that there should be a port somewhere if not find the stock sensor and put a t on it so that you can add another one to the same port.

 

ok thanks for the advice and i was just goin to take out the old oil pressure sensor. put the new one there for the gauge.

 

If you did that it would mess up the ECU, it needs that data for it to work properly.

Just put it in one of the other ports, it is easier as well but the plug can be a PITA to get out. I ended up using a 2 foot breaker bar with a long extension and one of those uinversal joint adapters then the bit to get it out. but that worked perfect.

thank you so much for showing me that and ill get mine in and take some pics to show. and for the oil gauge the one thats in the truck right now doesnt work anyway so i dont think it would hurt at all if i took it out to put the aftermarket one in its place.

 

It could very well be the dash guage is messed up and not the sender. I wouuld scan for a code first and see.

Well then leave the stock sender there and use one of the other port for sure. Other then being a pain to get out they are easy to install there. Just use the breaker bar with a u-joint and it will pop right out.

And FYI the guage on the dash is the water temp. but i think you knew this.

 

Are you using the 3.0 sender?
