taking off the stripes on a 93'
What do you guy's suggest I use to take off the stripes they put on the 93' pickups? I dont want to damage the paint or anything and I plan to wax like 3 times after I take them off. The reason I want to take them off is that it has been scratched and chipped and they are just plain ugly
thx alot

Use a heat gun or blow dryer and slowly peel it off. The plastic film will come off fairly easily but depending on how good / lucky your are, there may be a great deal of adhesive left behind. Use some 3M adhesive remover to get that off. You can find it at pretty much any auto parts store. You might try a plastic putty knife along with the 3M stuff to get the adhesive off. It helps out but you have to be careful so that you don't damage the paint. Also, if you don't feel like messing with it many detail shops will do it for about $75.

My 91 4runner had a smaller stripe and I used this specal wheel attached to a drill. It's made for the job and is a hard rubber substance that flakes as you go like a pencil erasor. This took the strip and glue in one step but I had to rub out a lot of fine scratches afterward.

If you are skilled you can get most of the adhesive to come off right along with the plastic stripe, which makes it *much* easier, but the 3M remover I mentioned is quite effective in dissolving the adhesive. You spray it on and leave it for a couple minutes, then it comes right off with a rag or putty knife depending on how thick or old it is.
