Taillight paint

I was wondering what type of paint you use to paint your taillights? I know Butnut has used the paint. I am planning to paint my reverse lights black to blend in with the body color since I don't really need them cause I have foglights in the back because of my dark tint. Also could you give me the procedure I need to use inorder to obtain that professional look I"m going for. Thanks

I assume you're just wanting to paint the plastic lens to match the body color right? That's pretty straight forward. Remove the lens. Sand the lens with wet 400 grit sandpaper until the plastic turns dull. Rinse and dry well. Buy a rattle can primer, dark grey is good. Shoot a few light coats. When it is well covered, let it dry. I usually let primer dry a day at least, because I sand all texture off with 600 or 800 grit to insure a smooth top coat. Be carefull not to sand through, soak your next grit sandpaper at least 1/2 hour in water. Some minor sandthrough is no biggie. I would use black lacquer ...usually found in rattle can at NAPA. Lacquer is easy to spray and build. Let the coats flash dry (1-2 minutes) and lightly keep building. The final coat can be a little heavy (wet coat)...in perfect conditions, this will be a nice gloss. Again, let dry at least a day. If all went well, it will look nice, glossy black. Lacquer can be buffed if you have a buffer.(I would mount it to the body and do this) Some wet sanding with 2000 grit and light compound/polish with a high speed buffer will make this look like glass. You'll need at least 8 or more coats of lacquer if doing this. Good luck.

I have used VHT Nite Shades with sucess on my Cutlass (pics on my page). I think it would work well for you. You can buy it from JCW. A link is on my site also.
