I am new to post, but have been lurking around and reading this forum fo a couple of years now.

I have a question that i am sure someone here know the answer to.

I have a 2000 reg cab 4x4 taco, with quite a few mods. I love the truck but the one complaint that I have is the steering wheel. When I bought it it was in perfect condition except for the fact that the rubber/foam material that the steering wheel itself is made of has been coming apart. Last year I replaced it with a brand new OEM steering wheel from toyota and had the local dealer do the swap and the airbag removal$$$$$$!!!!!

It is now doing the same thing again. Does anyone else have this problem?

My question is this. My friend just acquired a 2000 4runner parts truck to do a 3.4 swap and among other things it has a leather steering wheel that i would really love to have for my taco. Will the 2 steering wheels interchange?
Are the splines the same? I only ask because I don't want to go to all the trouble to pull it, only to find that it is different and unuseable.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

No, they are not the same. The airbags are different. It will physically fit on the shaft, but you wont be able to install your airbag.

 

what about a wheelskins cover?

 

Can he not just use the steering wheel and the airbag from his friends 4Runner parts truck? That is if the airbag didnt blow.

 

Both airbags are good on both trucks. The 4runner was hit very hard in the rear and was deemed a total loss. I saw it yesterday and aside from being a 2wd it had leather sports seats and good upper a-arms which i will be sending to steve at sonoran steel. So the steering wheel swap will work if both air bags are good? Thanks for all the input.

 

That I dont know. Airbags are a pretty sensitive part, and unless you are 100% sure, i wouldn't go messing with them.
