I have a very techincal Toyota Question to all the yota freaks like me. Now I think this will work and on paper it looks like it can work. I have a 98 Toyota Tacoma it has a W59 tranny in it. The t-case like everyone knows has a driveside front out put. Now this is where it gets crazy. I have a Dana 44 that I'm going to throw under my rig. It has a passanger side diff. 95 and older Yotas have a W56 tranny which from my research is what came before the W59. On paper these two trannys seem the same. Both had either an R100 or W100 T-case bolted behind it. I pretty sure I have an R100 which is chain drive. So what I want to do is get an older R100 w/ a passanger side front out. But will the older T-case bolt up to my W59 tranny. This is the only thing holding me back from finishing my rig so if someone can help I would be forever greatful.

 

I went to Bentup one time, and I THINK they had that same setup that your thinking about.

Do you think marlin will have an adapter. But does anyone know if you can fit an older t-case to a newer tranny or is an adapter the only way

 

Sounds like more trouble switching the T-Case than getting a driver side diff Dana44? Plus, in my experience, its impossible to get Bentup to answer the phone or email. I gave up on them after many many tries.

If you were to get it to work, it would be possible to go with a Toyota front axle - that would be cool to see a Toyota straight axle on a 3rd gen 4R or Tacoma.

 

It would be cool. But I have a rare D44 everyone keeps telling me to keep this axle. That why I'm try the t-case first. I may just end up with a ford D44 and keep the one I have. I don't think the wife will be happy with yet another axle sitting around.

 

Doesn't the exhaust run right where your driveshaft is going to be? I believe you'll have to re-run your exhaust...which doesn't sound very easy (and nearly impossible). While I may be wrong, last time I was Tacoma there wasn't much room on the pass. side.

Since it can be done for the 3slow I'm sure he can make one for the 3.4L, but a better choice is to add a crawlbox, then run the gear driven t-case off it.

Look under there and make sure before you go making any decisions. Even so, I don't know of any that have done a pass. side drop on a Tacoma.
