Supercharged Tacoma sluggish

Just picked up a 99 Supercharged Tacoma. The truck is a 3.4 automatic 4x4 with a Trd s/c. I'm not really sure if the s/c is factory or not and I really don't know how to tell. I really can't even tell the truck is supercharged, other than the wine from
the supercharger. A friend of mine has 2002 Tacoma that is identical except it is not supercharged and his will keep up with mine in a race. My 99 Silverado with a 5.3 destroyed it in a race. The boost gauge holds steady at about 6-7 psi so I know the s/c is working. Just wondering if something is else could be wrong with the truck, or if these things really aren't much faster than stock.

There's a lot to consider, but generally speaking a supercharged Tacoma with no extra fuel mods running at peak efficiency should have about 250-260 hp (compared to 190 stock). So with a difference of 60-70 hp it should feel a good bit quicker than stock; I'm guessing the truck isn't running very well (unless the transmission is slipping or something).

What kind of maintenance has been done on the truck recently? Have you done any troubleshooting (spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, etc.)? Any CEL? How long since the supercharger was rebuilt?

When it comes down to it, 260 crank horsepower is still incredibly slow in a 4,000lb vehicle. What else is done to your truck? Lift? Tires? Gears? This all plays a factor in power itself. In the grand scheme of things, a stock Tacoma will roast you without a supercharger if you're lifted, sitting on larger tires and without proper gearing.

No lift, stock tires and wheels. I have no idea what gear ratio it has, but still I expected a lot more get up and go. My Silverado has 285 at the crank and has bigger tires. It can still easily pull away

Torque wins races... It's nice having the supercharger. it's a great boost in power compared to stock, but you're still no Speedy Gonzalez with it equipped.

If power is what your after, why not hit up the experts at URD? A smaller pulley and a 7th injector will definitely add some ponies.

I hope this helps,

Thanks,

At the minimum you need to have the fuel pressure regulator reference a boost source (look it up). The stock injectors and pump can handle 5-7psi by only doing the FPR mod. Without additional fuel you're just injector a bunch of hot air. A S/C should be noticeable. 50whp is quite noticeable on a 155whp factory vehicle. You need to get it to somebody that check it out. It may be as simple as a clogged cat or a dirty MAF, or bad o2 sensor. Oh, and run highest octane available now. Low grade will make you ping, and retard timing.
