Supercharged '96 Taco for $8900?

Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm lookin forward to owning a Tacoma soon and I've been looking. I saw this truck was the subject of the 300+ HP thread, before it turned into what it is now.

300+ HP or not, this is still a pretty good deal for a '96 supercharged Tacoma with 80k isn't it? I'm just wondering here cause if it is, maybe I'd like to go to AZ and buy it.

What do you guys think?

BTW, here's a link to the ad...

There's no way in the world i would buy it.

Why? Number one, s/c a stock engine is not the best thing in the world for engine longevity, it has 80k on it now. Number two, when you have alot of power what about the drivetrain? Upgraded cluth/tranny? Driveshafts? Rearend? not to mention transfer case, front differential and those poor cv joints, Dude do yourself a favor and save the headaches.

So would you recommend buying a stock truck and do my own mods? Would you buy a pre-lifted truck?

I agree with doink, but you can't beat 96Runner's offer to check it out for you. Who knows, maybe it really is a steal.

Buy a stock truck/runner and do your mods yourself. It is much more satisfying.

Yeah that offer is very generous, thanks. Unfortunately I'm not going to be ready to purchase it for some time.

i would consider buying it if the ECU and fuel had been upgraded already. otherwise, in the 95's and '96's there is hardly any benefit from the s/c because the fuel system is so inadequate.

otherwise, there is little that could actually be damaged. Gadget and a few others have blow trannys in 4runners, but i've never heard of that happeneing in a tacoma . . . the rear end of a tacoma is so much lighter.

i put about 30K s/c miles on my '97 SR5, with no engine problems whatsoever before i totalled it. Gadget has 100K+ s/c'd miles on his '96.

the 5VZE is pretty a pretty durable engine.
