superchaged 4runner tranny question

hey everyone my dad has a 99 4runner sport and he put a supercharger on it. He had read that the tranny in his truck will not hold the supercharger if you put your foot to the floor, but someone else said if u put a trd tranny cooler on it, the tranny will be fine, please help! Also i have a 95 4runner and am gunna put the 3.4 conversion motor in my 4runner and put a supercharger on that too. Does anyonknow if the tranny from the 3.0 automatic motor would hold the 3.4 supercahrgedd motor, cause this tranny does have the smooth luxury shift like the new ones do, so it would make me think that it would actually be better since the plates wouldnt be slippingas much then if the gears ont takew longer to shift. Please Help! thanks alot.

The supercharger adds stress to the system and in an automatic transmisson that means heat. An ATF cooler is cheap insurance and using a synthetic ATF will help even more. The TRD ATF cooler kit is expensive, I choose to install a Hayden stacked plate 30k cooler in mine along with a flush with synthetic fluid before I installed the supercharger, cheap insurance in my view even without any engine modifications. It's pretty hard to overcool ATF.

After installing the supercharger the soft (slow) shifts are VERY noticable particularly at WOT. I believe this is where the S/C can hurt the A/T. The slow shifts cause additional wear under the load of the supercharger.

I installed the Level 10 V/B HydroSystem two weeks ago and the shifts are FIRM! This is my daily ride and the shifts were just too firm for me. Last weekend I reinstalled the stock springs and the shifts are still quick (a tire chirp in second is not uncommon) but not as firm as the setup from Level 10.

When you consider shipping, Level 10 charges, gasket material and ATF, the Level 10 modification is a $900 job. I'm happy with it and I believe it will save an A/T rebuild.

Remember, the S/C itself is not bad on the tranny. Your right foot is! If you are not racing around all the time, your tranny will be fine. A tranny cooler is mandatory (IMO) if you are going to do any towing, though.

I have 78000 miles on my 99 S/C'd (since new) Auto 4Runner and have no noticeable tranny problems. (I hope I didn't just curse myself! )

Level 10 Charges $744, Fedex next day with $1k insurance $60, packing material (tape, ziplock bags, shipping box, bubble wrap) $15, add 8 quarts of Synthetic ATF and gasket material and your pretty close to $900...OK maybe closer to $860 but you get the idea! If you have more time you can save a few more dollars on the shipping. Use the standard ATF to shave off a few more bucks. My point was there is a little more than the Level 10 charges to consider.

Plan on that V/B swap to take a few hours. Not a difficult task, just time consuming getting the pan down, cleaning the gasket surfaces, torque all the bolts, rolling back and forth under the truck etc. Going real slow and careful, doing this for the first time. In total, this took me longer than installing the supercharger.
