Hello to everyone,
I am a "newbie" here so please be patient with me. I am trying to identify a noise coming from my drivetrain when I take my foot off the gas at higher speeds. We recently did a three inch suspension lift and rebuilt the rear end. All was done by a professional so I have very few doubts about the competence of the mechanic. Just to reiterate, the sound only happens when I take my foot off of the gas while cruising down the highway. There is a slight vibration and a whurring sound coming from somewhere just below the trans tunnel and the rear end. I was thinking it might be clutch related( I run an auto). If anyone can help I would be forever indebted. Thanks to all and I look forward to posting a pick or "Mr. Clean", my '88 1st gen with quite a few mods already in place and quite a few more on the way.

Does the noise happen when you have the truck in neutral?

 

No. I will check on it though to make sure. I asume you mean that if I shift into neutral while driving at speed the noise will happen. I have not tried this yet and will get back to you in a few minutes.

 

O.K. I think I have answered my own question. The driveshaft is just a little too short. I will need to have it lengthened.
