Thought I'd share my setup here. I had an Injen intake on mine and I hated it. I'm sure it was less restrictive than the stock box and resonators, but it was sucking hot air from the corner of the engine bay and the noise was godawful.
So I found that by just using the stock air box, Injen intake tube and an inner driver joint boot from a SAAB, I can get the best of both worlds. Real cold air intake without the stock pipe restrictions.

The second pic shows the inner CV boot from a SAAB (any SAAB 99/900 from 1973-1993 will do.). The circumference of the boot matched the air box lip perfectly, and slipping the boot over the pipe requires cutting the smaller bellows off until you can slip it over the pipe. I secured it to the box end with the supplied cv boot clamp. Leave some material for a clamp to hold the boot onto the slippery intake pipe. The rubber bellows allow for flex when the engine torques in its mounts. Only adjustment necessary is a slight cut into the pipe to prevent the pipe from cutting a hole in the air filter.


I've put about 1000 miles and a few off road trips on this setup , and I'm very happy with it. The biggest benefit is to not have to listen to that godawful BWAAAAAaaaAAT from the open filter.
