Stiff Automatic Shifting

I've been on here for a couple of years, on and off. I've had good insight with replacing my water pump, as well as some difficulties with emissions.

Anyways, I'm having a bit of trouble right now. 2000 4Runner, 2wd, automatic. When I am trying to shift it out of park, it is difficult to shift. Additionally, it gets more difficult as I try to go into 2nd, more difficult as I go into 1st. When I try to shift i back into park, it almost feels as if I am not making it into the slot.

I'm not sure how else to describe it. I'm hoping someone has some idea of what I'm talking about, or has a solution.

Check the linkage under the truck on the transmission itself. Have soemone shift it while you look at it (with the truck off naturally). See if you see any binding.
