Hey I went down to the stealer today and they said that since my rig is hitting around 90K I should probably have my Automatic serviced. They quoted me 99.00 to flush the entire tranny and add 16 qts of fluid. Since this is more involved than a simple drain I wanted to ask the forum whether this was fair.

I paid $130 for mine. So 99 sounds like a good price!

The price is indeed good, but I would also want the pan removed and cleaned and a new filter installed.

I've read stories on the web and have heard one independent who does a weekly radio show say that flushing can sometimes KILL a transmission.

The process sends NEW fluid thru a DIRTY filter and has a tendency to break dirt loose. A speck of dirt in the wrong area floating around can destroy a transmission.

My 2 cents.

Unless you have been flushing at regular intervals it is a good idea to drop the pan, change the filter and clean the magnets then do the flush.

I did the filter change myself refilled with fresh ATF and then took it to get the flush done.

I want to know why more companies can't make an auto transmission like Saturn. They use a spin-on transmission filter. As a result, a full flush is very easy and very safe. You simply remove the filter and attach the flushing machine at that point. After flushing clean fluid through it for 20 minutes or so, unhook the machine, drain the fluid, install a new filter and filll to spec.

That said, $99 is a good price for full system flush if they do what would be considered a standard sevice (remove and clean pan, change filter) as well.

$99 is a good price. I paid $89 at an independent shop.

I also had them run a can of B&G trany flush through before the flush.

I have had no problems and the shifts are much sharper.

Is this a great deal or just a flashy ad? its by Cottman Transmissions www.cottman.com appointment is Wed. so let me know if this is a gimmick! Thanks

Like the others have said, $99 is a good price if they also do the pan drop and filter, I believe my dealer charges around $120 but that incorporates some other minor checkups/maintenance items while they're doing the tranny flush.

Scarbro -

Never heard of Cottman so I have no idea if that is a reputable place or not, let us know what you find out. If it is that is an AWESOME DEAL!! THANKS GRANNY!!

That is not the same as a true tranny flush.
All they are doing is dropping the pan and adding fluid.
A Flush will actually pump new fluid through the tranny.....also why it costs more.

Drain and fill that's it (only about 3 qts).
Flush replaces all 16 or so qts in the tranny with all fresh fluid.

For the record, Cottman Transmission has a pretty good reputation down here in SA.

Yeah man ain't that cool, probably don't even need to flush it just change the fluid and filter more often, I've heard many people say they just change the trans fluid every oil change or every other oil change

Really like the red sun on the back of your pick up, what is it called or referred to the red circle, thats the japanese flag
