Static shock in 4th gen - Anyone else?
My wife and I have noticed that the 4th gen. 4Runner gives us a heck of a static discharge when we exit. I know it has been dry here in southern CA but it seems excessive. I have the cloth interior. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. Seat covers of a different material would probably make a big difference...

My 2000 LE Pathfinder shocked the hell out of me, don't know what it was but it eventually stopped, just don't make a habit of getting in and out when getting gas
If you got carpets, or anything when you drag your feet and then touch the metal
it should stop

My old accord used to do that too. Dunno what caused it as I've sat in other cloth seats without getting shocked but I would just hold onto the door while I'm still sitting before getting out so I wouldnt get shocked while closing the door.

she has normal carpeted floor mats while my taco has some heavy duty rubber mats. i cant recall ever getting a shock from my truck but i do get a jolt quite often in the 4runner.

I haven't had any problems with that yet ... but it makes sense that such things would occur ... especially (like everyone has already said) in dry climates. I used to live in Colorado and man, my hair would stick out all static-y just standing there!
Only real problem I'm having with my 4th gen is the alarm ... it keeps going off and the doors will lock and unlock themselves at random.
Wanna trade problems?

Firsttoy's got the answer ! Wet Okoles. I had the same problem. In fact, I had it as part of my routine to grab the key and ground myself on the door jam as I got out of the truck. Santa put some Wet Okoles under my tree this year and the shocking has completely stopped. I haven't been shocked since December 25th, 2003. Well, you know, THAT kind of shock...

if you do get out, just touch the side of the car with your hands, that will discharge the static--thank you MYTHBUSTERS!

Usually with the pathfinder when I went to close the door it shocked me, the 4Runner has leather seats and rubber mats and no shock
