So recently I have been having problems starting my truck. When I go to start it all I get is 1 single click and nothing else. It may do that 3 times and then finally it will turn over. I realize the starter will have to be rebuilt, but what specifically is the problem? Contact? Solenoid?

 

most likely the contacts, they are notorious for going out on toyotas... check out www.4crawler.com roger sells the contact replacement kit and its a lot cheaper than a new starter and there is a writeup on how to do it on his site as well

Sounds like contacts but before you buy any see if they are wore down or just dirty. Also check the connections to your starter for corrosion and clean and tighten them all down then try it. Mike
