squeak/churdle noise?

I have had a kind of churdling/squeaking noise in my 2000 4Runner for quite some time and have dug around everywhere and can't seem to locate it. I only get the noise when I am driving and back off the gas. If I accelerate even the slightest, it stops. I seem to remember something posted about a whistle or something from the canister but can't seem to find that thread using the search.

Any insights? I originally used the volume knob method to just drown it out, but it seems to be getting a little more consistent lately.

My 4Runner is a 2000, V6, auto, etc.

Thanks!

squeaking

I have a 99 toy tacome and i think that i have the same problem! It seems when i let of the gas in second or 3rd or any other gear it makes a squeaking sound, but as soon as i push on the gas it stops. I think that it coming from or around the trans, but i really can't tell because i have to be driving down the road to hear it. I am thinking about changing out my rear engine mount and see what that does. I am really not sure what to do,

You guys need to get under your rigs with a grease gun and lube up the Zerk fittings on the drivetrain preferably some good synthetic grease. I go with Mobil 1 grease, which you can buy at Auto Zone or Pep Boys and comes in little cartridges that slide into your grease gun. Don't be scared when you see that the stuff is pink.

I'm not sure how many grease fittings are on a 4-Runner, but Tacomas have like 8 or 9(depending on if you have a reg cab or extended cab). You want to get under there and lube them up at least every 3K miles.

Do it ASAP, because if it's squeaking, there is insufficient lubrication and parts are wearing out faster than they should. Much easier to lube up your drivetrain every few thousand miles than to replace U-Joints and double-Cardans.

Carrier bearing

I have the same prob. I lube my u joints regularly, but not the carrier because there is no fitting. Is mine broken off? Additionally how much play should be in the rubber insulator? By the way, not the truck in my avatar, my 99 prerunner extended cab.

i test drove a 97 4runner ltd, and that same noise your talking about happened on the test drive. I pin pointed it down to the power steering pump pulley/belt. Don't know how bad yours is, but this one was loud. Get in there and accelerate the motor with your ears concentrating on the belts and pulleys.

ornery might be right, when i bored my 3rz to a v12 and added a super charger to my turbo I forgot to change my muffler bearings. Why waste space in the post with crap like that?
