Doink,

I've read about folks renting them from places like Autozone, you pay a deposit, use the tool, take it back and get your deposit back.

Yeah Autozone or Advance Auto usually have them. They have a deposit program and you get it back after you return it...

I just bought a MacPherson economy strut compressor at my local auto parts store for $22.00. Probably a good investment. Between you and your buddies it'll get plenty of use.

Or you could find a friend say... at a shop that has a wall mount that would put the spacer in for you for say... free . Other than that you can do whats already been mentioned. They probably have them at rent-all places as well. Good luck! And be careful!! Holding a compressed spring like that is like holding a loaded gun. Probably not going to go off, but it happens.

Good luck!

Nah dude, judging from this thread by Zach, internal is the one you need

Shouldn't need a spring compressor for changing shocks. You would, however, need one for changing strut/spring combo's. I don't know about 2001, but my 91 just has shocks, no struts.

You want an external. I usually go to Napa, leave a $20 on the counter and get it when I come back.

I will guarantee that an internal is not what you want for putting spacers on top of rear coils in the rear of a 2nd Gen Runner.

I don't think a wall mount would be of much help either.
