Another Noob question... I know the topic of springs/coils has been discussed extensively here.

Is there any way to tell if I have a "good" or "upgraded" set of Toyota Springs?

My 2000 4Runner Sport doesn't have the "sagging" issues like many others... the colors on my springs are as follows:

Front - Pink/Yellow and White/Yellow
Rear - Blue/Yellow on both coils

I'm getting ready to replace the shocks, and I'm trying to figure out if I should also do springs/coils. I normally would... but as far as I can tell, the existing coils seem to be doing their job (no sagging, they look good).

Thoughts? Leaning toward the Bilsteins as a replacement for the stock shocks and keeping the stock springs (or am I just setting myself up for failure down the road?).

I looked at the SS stuff... they do have some nice kits. Not really interested in lifting the truck, not sure their product is a fit for me.

I did see the spring link before... it's a good comparison between the different coil options for the different model years.

 

Just some additional questions...

Again, being a noob, how widespread is the "sagging coil" issue? I see Runners all the time with the back ends sagging, but mine seems to be holing up ok.

Something I should worry about?
Or did I get a set of "good" springs?
Is the sagging only prevalent in certain model years?

From the pics... does my suspension look sagged out? Is the space between the axel and bumpstop ok? Or are they sagging? Until I took the pics, I didn't realize how little space there was between the 2.

As for your springs, by your pics, you do have a sagged rear end, however 00's-02's came naturally low to begin with. From the pics they do seem like the typical thin and weak rear toyota springs. I am pretty sure the 99's rear colour for the springs are red/yellow.

Recomendations for a spring set up? Not looking for a lift, this truck will see mostly highway miles. Fairly certain I'll go with the Bilsteins for shocks.

 

oh man,,not this can of worms again,, suspension ideas are about as mutual as music preferences.
First, anything you get will give you some lift due to your low level at the moment. So a "non" lift will bring you up to a 99 4Runner level at the minimum.
2nd..Firm or soft ride?

From what i see, you can go the OME 881/906 direction and go with the comfort or firm shocks.
or;
go with the pp springs and some bilsteins.

Both should put you at the 99' level +/- 0.5inches and will give you a ride that you desire.
Personally I have the OME 880+topout, + 906's with comfort shocks and it handles well. Next set might be firm shocks due to now living in a city where the roads are not like mine fields.

 

We're on the same page... I think PP springs and Bils is where I'm headed. I prefer a firm suspension (roads around here are good).

Need to track down some more pictures of folks running this set up.

 

Mine is a 2000 also. My rear springs were sagging big time. The "jounce bumpers", bumps inside the springs, were about 1/4" off the spring perch. Yours don't look as bad. They may be sagging some. If you don't mind the look then you don't NEED to replace the springs. You may feel the jounce bumpers hitting when you go through big dips. This is not a problem, just a ride feeling.

The fronts usualy don't sag much.

I have Bilsteins and love them. They give a firm ride but not harsh.
