Speedo cable question
#1
Ok i have a '95 4Runner and i had the usual speedo problems.......needle bouncing all over the place, nasty noise coming from my gauge cluster.....thought for sure the cable was bad so i went and forked out the $60 at the dealer for a new speedo cable, installed it this weekend and BTW took me 2 hours start to finish thanks to Coreys write up on indiglo gauges. That write up to all the guess work out on getting to my gauges. Thanks Corey!!!!! Anyway everything went well and then this morning my wife calls me and said its doing the same thing again......this bugs me to death is it something else, did i replace a cable for nothing or what???? PLEASE HELP what do i look for now.

Ok, when you installed the cable, did you add some sort of lube? I have done only a few cable replacements so far, but not on a Toy, I have always lubed the little gears and any points that move or contact each other. I have found that dialectrice grease works great and has lasted to date in jobs I have used it in, but the manufacturers do sell a paste type grease that they say is recomended. Just some thoughts.

The problem is the speedo head. When cable driven speedo heads are cold they're always figety unless they're brand new. I just deal with it because I don't want my odometer to say 000000, I like it saying 241400.
